Lt. Howey from Rscue 24 explains the front pre-connected Hurst Tool
On Monday, September 9, 2002, Station 24 worked with Station 313 (West Earl) on a Vehicle Rescue Drill. Both 24 and 313 are dual dispatched to incidents on Rt. 222 and other roads between the two districts. This cross training was very useful for both companies to understand the tools Rescue 24 carries and the location of these tools as well as the location of handlines and equipment Engine 313-1 carries.

Lt. Howey from 24 led the evolutions. Lt. Howey is the Rescue Officer. The evolutions included: stabilization of the vehicles, de-powering the vehicle, using the center punch on windows, cutting out the front window and then the strategic placement of the extrication tools on the “A”, “B” and “C” posts of the vehicle and the proper use of these tools. Each evolution included a demonstration of a tool and than the use of the tool by a 24 or 313 firefighter.

NOTE: Rescue 24 is a 1990 E-One Hush “Heavy Rescue”, read more about Rescue 24 here: http://www.edenfire.com/about/apparatus/rescue24.html. Rescue 24 is first due in neighboring districts for “Vehicle Accidents with Entrapments”. Station 24 requires all firefighters to successfully complete a Department Of Health (DOH) certified Vehicle Rescue Technician (VRT) course. In addition to entrapments, Rescue 24 will be dispatched for RIT, water rescue, residential/industrial rescue as well as other types of rescue calls.
