Heavy Truck Rescue Class

This past weekend, the Charlottesville-Albemarle Rescue Squad(CARS) held there 9th annuall Heavy Vehicle Rescue Technician class. Three Eden members traveled to Charlottesville, Virginia for a three days of valuable vehicle rescue training.

Lt Hummel, Sgt Bender and FF Adams spent the weekend training on rescue situations involving heavy vehicles and tractor-trailers. The weekends emphasis was on fire department utilization of Heavy Wreckers and stabilization.

Wrecker Equipment Familiarization

The first day consisted of morning lecture and afternoon work stations. The lecture covered truck anatomy, heavy vehicle stabilization and extrication as well as heavy wrecker theory.

The second day was filled with work stations including a Bus Rescue/Hot cut station, Vehicle under-ride considerations, stabilization and vehicle lifting operations utilizing heavy wreckers.

The weekend concluded on Sunday with four full rescue scenarios. The four scenarios included two passenger vehicle under-ride situations, overturned trailer on a vehicle and our final scenario. For the final scenario, our group had to extricate a patient from an SUV with a cement mixer rolled over on it.
