Around The Station
Around noon today Lt. Hummel, Sgt. Adams and several newer members from Eden took to the Lancaster County Public Safety Training Center (LCPSTC) to work on Probationary checkoffs as well as riding qualifications for Truck 24.
Over the past months, the company has seen an increase in membership, specifically within the Live In program. With all of the new members comes the task of training them.
Our latest members include:Prob. FF Mike Sargen, Marietta (Sta. 710)Prob. FF Joe Crum, Linglestown (Dauphin Co. 35)Prob. FF Jeff Keens, Lafayette (Sta. 63)
While they come with previous experience, in house qualifications to learn the "Eden way" and ride Truck 24 are first to be completed.
The day began with a review of vertical ventilation operations, specifically using the roof simulator available at the training center. In addition to a basic roof vent cut; advanced operations, varied cut types and roof construction methods were all discussed.

Following successful work on the roof, the team moved over to vehicle stabilization. With Truck 24 serving as both a truck and rescue service, all members must be proficient in both disciplines. Stabilization of a vehicle on its side was discussed first.
The crew then reviewed basic extrication techniques including dash displacement using either a spreader or ram. With multiple cars available, it allowed all members of the group plenty of tool time.
Operations on small and large vehicles as well as differences based on vehicle construction were discussed.

Overall the members trained for over 4 hours this afternoon. This only begins the qualifications for Truck 24, the rest of which can be completed at Station 24. A big thanks to Director Elmer for allowing us to use the facility today.
