2008 Eden Line Staff

The 2008 Eden Line Staff is composed of eight officers. This includes a Chief, Deputy Chief, Captain, Lieutenant and four Sergeants.

Chief David Howey is an 18 year veteran of the fire service. He has been a member at Eden for the last 10 years. Within that time he has served as a Lieutenant, Captain and Assistant Chief for a combined six years. As the chief of the department, Dave is responsible for overall operations as well as the vice president for the Manheim Township Fire Council. Howey is employed as a Firefighter-Technician for the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Fire Department at Regan National Airport outside of D.C.

Deputy Chief J. Michael Roten has been in the fire service 24 years, serving all 24 at Eden. For the last 15 years Mikey has served in the following positions: OIC, Lieutenant, Deputy Chief and Chief. He is currently undertaking fireground operations and public education/ fire safety programs. Mike is a shop foreman for Simeral Construction's Cabinet Department.

Captain John Osborne has a combined 18 years in the fire service. He has been an officer for 10 of his 15 years at Eden. Ozzy currently oversees apparatus readiness, the Quick Response Service, Live-In(supervisor) and serves on the township S.O.G. committee. He is a Career Firefighter/EMT for the Phoenixville Fire Department in Chester County.

Captain Osborne



Lieutenant Joshua Hummel has been active in the fire service for the past 11 years. He has spent 4 of those years at Eden. Serving as a Sergeant in 2007, this is Josh's second year as a line officer. Hummel is the training officer for 2008 as well as head of personnel. This includes company level, township level and outside training. He also oversees the extensive Driver Training Division here at Eden. In addition he is the training representative for the Lancaster County Rescue Taskforce. Hummel works for Howard County(MD) Fire Rescue as a Career Firefighter/EMT.

Sergeant Stephen Leayman, a 20 year fire service veteran, has served Eden for 16 years of that time. He has a combined 7 years of line officer experience. This includes Lieutenant, Captain and Assistant Chief. Steve is in charge of the equipment division which includes PPE, SCBA, hand/power equipment and uniforms. Leayman is a Manufacturing Supervisor for RR Donnelley where he has been employed since July of 1974.

Sergeant Jim Damm has been in the fire service since 2000 and a member of Eden since 2001. 2008 will be his 3rd year as a Sergeant for the department. In his short time here, he has been instrumental in the creation of the Health & Safety Division at Eden which he currently oversees. He also works with the IT division and website. Jim is employed by Fulton Financial Corporation.

Sergeant Damm



Sergeant Mark Shenk, a 3 year member at Eden, has 12 years of fire service experience. Mark, a first year Sergeant, brings experience from the East Petersburg Fire Co where he served as a captain. Mark is a former live-in and oversees IT and communications for Eden. In addition he serves as a trustee and is the assistant training officer. Shenky is employed by TCW Computer Systems as a Network Technician.

Sergeant Matthew Adams has spent 4 of his 6 years in the fire service here at Eden. He has been a live-in since 2004 and is entering his first year as a junior officer. He currently works on the Equipment Division. Matt oversees PPE/Gear ordering and inspection as well as SCBA readiness and training. Equipment readiness, preventative maintenance and service are his additional responsibilities. Matt is a Career Firefighter/EMT for Montgomery County(MD) Fire Rescue.
