Live In Program

Some people dream about being firefighters, but what could be better than being a firefighter AND living in a fire station! For 10 firefighters, the Eden Fire Company is not just a place to VOLUNTEER, it is also a place to call home. In exchange for living rent-free in our less than luxurious accommodations, firefighters provide extra manpower and quick responses for our community.

Beginning in June 1997, the Company officially adopted a Live-In Program, where firefighters could use the fire station as their official (and perhaps only) residence. Now in its fifth year, the program has been a welcome and valuable asset, to the company and the residence that we serve.

The station has recently undergone an $850,000 building renovation to enhance many aspects of our station. Part of this renovation included a 2,200 square foot addition which is mostly dedicated to the Live-In program.

Current features of our Live-In Program include:

  • Five dorm-style bunk rooms with two persons per room, wardrobe chest, under-bunk drawers, night stand, (2) cable outlets, (1) desk, (1) network connection to the Station's broadband internet service
  • One overflow bunk room with 6 bunks for use by regular members
  • Four uni-sex bathrooms
  • Two washers and dryers dedicated for the Live-Ins
  • Full kitchen including two stoves, microwave, and two refrigerator/freezers
  • A floor to ceiling pantry closet for food storage for each Live In
  • Station e-mail and voice mail for each Live-In
  • A shared mailing address separate from the fire station.
  • Free membership to Universal Fitness located in the first due.
  • Fully paid fire training, including participation in the National Pro-Board Certification of Firefighter I and II (currently over 90% of our active members have achieved this plateau or higher)

Our fire company is located within 5 miles of the Lancaster Campus of Harrisburg Community College, Lancaster Bible College and Thaddeus Stevens School of Technology. We are also with in 15 miles of Franklin and Marshal College and Millersville University.
