The cost of everything has gone up in the last 80 years, but today, you could buy a house or two for the same price as a new pumper!

Many of these cost increases can be attributed to greatly improved safety features and the need for expanded functionality to meet the increasing challenges facing fire departments today.

Number of Responses

As the population we serve increases, so do our number of responses, as the following chart shows. 1964 is the earliest year for which reliable records could be found. Not all years are listed.

For comparison, 51 of the 83 volunteer fire companies in Lancaster County had less than 200 responses in 1999. Only 4 companies had over 500 responses in 1999.
